The Indian Government declared this after the 53rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution in 1986.
Mizoram was granted statehood on February 20,1987 and become the 23rd state of the Indian union.
Mizoram was declared as a separate UT in 1972 under the Northeast Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971
