Keeladi is a hamlet located along the banks of river Vaigai, near Madurai, in Tamil Nadu.
The Archaeological Survey of India started its excavation in Keeladi in 2014.
Earlier it was believed that the Sangam Era was 300 BCE.
Recently the ASI finalized that the Sangam Era dates back to 800 BCE.
ASI was established in 1861 by Alexander Cunnigham.
It is headquartered at New Delhi and is under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture.
